Wreath Laying Ceremony For General Francis Marion Planned

On November 17, 1781, General Francis Marion dispatched 180 men to attack Fair Lawn Plantation.

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–On Monday Feb. 27, 2017 is General Francis Marion Memorial Day. The public is invited to join General Marion’s Brigade Chapter at Marion’s Tomb at 11AM for a wreath laying ceremony.

Photographer Brant Barrett is working on a Swamp Fox photo essay and will be the main speaker. Did your Patriot ancestor fight with Francis Marion? Barrett is looking for you!

Col. Nicholas Gentile, Commander of the Swamp Fox Wing SCANG in Sumter, will also speak about Francis Marion.

Organizations to lay wreaths include: SCSDAR State Society, Ft. Sullivan, Theodosia Burr, EPR Manning, Susannah Smith Elliott, Carolina Gold and Gen. Marion’s Brigade DAR Chapters, Col. Hezekiah Maham SAR Chapter, Marion Marauders Society SCARNG and the South Carolina Air National Guard (Sumter).

The Washington Light Infantry will serve as Color Guard. John Mark McQuown will sing.
