VIA BERKELEY COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–A Berkeley County man is behind bars after deputies say he tried to kill his girlfriend by pouring lighter fluid on her and setting her on fire following an argument.

The incident took place at a home on Coveney Way in the Ladson area in Berkeley County.

Before deputies arrived on scene, a bystander transported the victim to Trident Hospital in North Charleston.

Deputies say the victim, who has been in a relationship with Holmes for about two years, reported that the suspect poured lighter fluid on her and set her on fire after the two had a dispute.

The investigation resulted in witness accounts and physical evidence that matched the victim’s statements.

As a result of the investigation, Christopher Lee Holmes, 31, of 104 Corey Drive in Ladson has been arrested and charged with Attempted Murder.

He is in the Hill Finklea Detention Center pending a bond hearing that will be at 9:00 am on Wednesday, April 5th at the Hill Finklea Detention Center.

The victim, who has extensive burns on her body, was transferred to the Joseph M. Still Burn Center in Augusta, Georgia for further treatment. She is expected to survive.
