Man Accused Of Exposing Himself To Little Girl At Fast Food Restaurant

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–A Summerville man is in custody for exposing himself to a child in a fast food restaurant, deputies stated.

On June 7th, 2017 at approximately 3 p.m. deputies with the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office responded to the McDonald’s located 302 College Park Road in Ladson regarding a report of an indecent exposure.

Upon arrival, deputies found a male subject being physically restrained by a witness. According to the witness and victim statements, Wilfred Tompkins, 59, arrived at the McDonald’s and went into the playground area.

Once there he began to play with the children. One of the witnesses became very suspicious and was watching as  Tompkins was interacting with one of the children. At one point, deputies say Tompkins waved a juvenile victim over to behind a basketball goal, asking her if she wanted some candy. When the juvenile walked over Tompkins took out his

When the juvenile walked over, officers say Tompkins took out his penis and began to masturbate in front of the victim whereupon the victim started to scream aloud.

Witnesses were able to get the other children out of the play area and they contained Tompkins
until deputies arrived.

Tompkins was arrested and charged with Criminal Solicitation of a Minor and Indecent Exposure. He was
transported to the Hill Finklea Detention Center to await warrant service and a bond hearing.

“This type of case is very disturbing and it serves as reminder that we need to remain vigilant at
all times. If it were not for observant witnesses and citizens willing to step up and help detain the
suspect, this person could still be on the loose,” Sheriff Duane Lewis stated.

Deputies stated that Tompkins was arrested in a similar case in December of 2015.
