Berkeley County Schools & Offices To Close Friday In Preparation of Hurricane Irma

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–Berkeley County School District’s (BCSD) leaders have made the decision to close all schools on Friday, September 8, 2017, to allow students, staff, and their families time to prepare for Hurricane Irma.

Schools will also be closed on Monday, September 11, 2017 and Tuesday, September 12, 2017, in anticipation of the storm.

Essential personnel including maintenance and facilities, technology, school administrators, Superintendent’s cabinet and their designated support staff, school custodians and cafeteria managers will report Friday morning and be released at 2 p.m. to prepare schools for the impending weather.

All afterschool activities and sporting events to take place on Friday, September 8, are canceled and information concerning rescheduling will be released when it becomes available. Additionally, all after school day care programs will also be canceled on Friday, September 8.

District officials are continuing to work closely with Berkeley County Emergency Preparedness Center to monitor the hurricane and potential impact on the county. Officials are also receiving regular updates from the National Weather Service.

Officials will continue to closely monitor this weather event and will communicate with parents, staff, and the community as frequently as possible about any changes or additional closures.
