Colonial Crafts & Fossils on Display at Old Santee Canal Park

MONCKS CORNER, S.C.-The Berkeley County Museum and Heritage Center, and the Old Santee Canal Park are hosting an educational family event.

“Discovery Days-Berkeley Begins” takes place February 10, 2018 from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. on the grounds of the Old Santee Canal Park located at 900 Stony Landing Road, Moncks Corner, SC 29461.

Visitors will have a chance to view a collection of rare fossils from a variety of vendors.  Living historians will be stationed throughout the park demonstrating their crafts.  Included in the program is a colonial blacksmith, 18th century dancing, a musket drill, and Native American bag making.

Indigo-dying and candle making classes are scheduled twice each throughout the day.  Dr. Richard Porcher will lecture on Colonial plants and medicine at 12:00 PM, and Matthew Gibson, Naturalist from the Charleston Museum will lecture on the extinct Carolina Parakeet at 1:00 PM.
