Hanahan Man Charged with Threatening Judge, Attorney

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–Agents of the S.C. Law Enforcement Division have arrested a Hanahan man in connection with threats made against a circuit court judge and an attorney.

Darrell Edwards, 50, has been charged with threatening life, person or family of a public official.

According to the arrest warrant, On February 10, 2018, a Tyrone Bennett met with Edwards. During the conversation, Edwards accused the judge and attorney of “sabotaging his case and accepted pay for doing so. He then “made up his mind to put an end to all of this and take care of their a**es.

When Bennett asked for clarification, Edwards reportedly stated that, “I’m going to take matters into my own hands and take the attorney and judge out because I can’t get justice no other way.”

When Edwards was told that he could spend the rest of his life in jail, Edwards reportedly replied, “I already got cancer, I don’t know how much longer I’m going to be here anyway. They stole my money, and I want my money, and I’m going to get justice. After I finish with them, I’m taking my own life.”

According to the arrest warrant, Edwards was armed with a handgun at the time of the threat.

He was booked at the Berkeley County Detention Center.

The case will be prosecuted by the Ninth Circuit Solicitor’s Office.
