Coroner: Man Fishing Near Bushy Park Found Dead

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–The Berkeley County Coroner’s Office has released the name of a fisherman who drowned over the weekend.

On Saturday, a 37-year-old commercial fisherman, identified as Van Ho of North Charleston, was reported overdue from a crabbing trip in the Cooper River near Bushy Park in Berkeley County.

Officers with the South Carolina Dept. of Natural Resources, the Berkeley County Sheriff Office and the U.S. Coast Guard initiated a search for the fisherman.

A Coast Guard helicopter found his boat in the marsh late Saturday afternoon.

Sunday morning a fisherman found a body floating and called the 911 dispatcher.

DNR made the recovery and the coroner made a positive identification.

His death has been ruled as accidental drowning.
