GOOSE CREEK, S.C.–A spokesperson for the Berkeley County School District says DHEC will notify the district of overall numbers of positive and negative TB results, while it also works to ensure the privacy of all tested individuals.
DHEC tested approximately 170 individuals on Friday, January 17 at Stratford High School for tuberculosis. As a follow up to the testing, the next steps will be as follows:
DHEC will send all test samples for scientific analysis. DHEC will begin notifying all individuals of their test results (positive or negative) as the test results are concluded, most likely by Monday, January 20 and at the latest on Tuesday, January 21.
DHEC will be at Stratford High School on Tuesday, Jan. 21 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to provide tests to those students and staff that were missed on Friday due to absence; or, to retake tests of any person whose test result was inconclusive.
DHEC will inform all students and staff of all test results privately and through their channels of communication. Students and staff will not be informed at school or rely on school personnel in any capacity to inform students and staff.
Should an individual test positive, DHEC will provide to the parent/guardian of the child or the adult staff member specific instructions and direction on next steps.
DHEC will provide to Berkeley County School District a final outcome of the number of positive and negative results; however, BCSD will not know who has tested positive or negative, per medical privacy laws.
DHEC and BCSD will report the final outcome of the test to the media and community on Tuesday, January 21.
