Winter Fossil Show returns to Cypress Gardens

MONCKS CORNERS, S.C.–The Winter Fossil Show kicks off a new year of exciting family-friendly events Cypress Gardens.

Coastal South Carolina’s lively prehistoric past makes the Lowcountry a mecca for shark teeth, whale, mastodon, camel, giant sloth, sea urchin and primitive horse fossils.

Each year, the Winter Fossil Show attracts guests of all ages interested in viewing specimens from both amateur collectors and paleontologists who share their unique and intriguing findings.

Displays of local fossils and even some exotic fossil material will be on-hand to be viewed and explored. Guests are encouraged to bring their own finds and have them analyzed by experts, who will be available to help with identification. Children can participate in a fossil dig, and door prizes will be awarded every hour.

“Some quite impressive fossils have been discovered in the Lowcountry,” explains Heather Graham, Manager of Cypress Gardens. “There has been an increased interest in recent years after the discovery of more dinosaur fossils in South Carolina. We encourage guests to bring their finds and have them identified. You just never know if that unique ‘rock’ houses a hidden treasure.”

Lunch will be available for purchase. The Fossil Show is free with regular paid admission to Cypress Gardens ($10.00 adult, $9.00 Senior, $5.00 child 6 to 12 years of age.
