Letter to the Editor: Homeowner wants more funding for police department

Below is a ‘Letter to the Editor’ from Moncks Corner homeowner, Patricia Whaley:

police lights (2)Dear Editor–

Have you been robbed? We have. Items have been stolen from our cars, garages, back doors of homes have been kicked in, vehicles stolen in our small town of Moncks Corner.

What do we do? Who do we turn to for help? I’ve gone to town council and the mayor for help.

Can our tax money be used to provide us with adequate police protection from crime?

I would like to encourage everyone to attend the budget workshop for the Town of Moncks Corner.

Anyone who pays taxes, property or sales tax, has the right to know how your tax money is being spent. This is public information.

If you live outside of town and shop in Moncks Corner, or just eat at a restaurant, or stay at a hotel in town , come see how your hospitality , or accommodation tax is being used. Please contact the Town Of Moncks Corner for the date and time of the budget workshop @ 843 719-7900.

Date and time are pending. Public Hearings during the council meeting on Tuesday, 9-16-14 will discuss an ordinance to raise revenue and adopt a general operating budget for our next fiscal year.

During the public hearing, our town officials will receive comments, written or oral from the public.

The location is 118 Carolina Ave., Moncks Corner, S.C.

We are thankful to our elected officials for sharing this important information with the citizens of our town and county.

Sincerely,
Patricia Whaley
Moncks Corner, S.C.
