According to The Dayton Beach News-Journal, the Berkeley County mother accused of trying to kill her three children by driving her van into the ocean will not be able to visit her children. However, a judge ruled that should could send them cards.

Ebony Wilkerson’s attorney reportedly argued that his client’s children believed their mother had died during the incident.

“Our position is that there has to be some form of contact between the mother and the children inasmuch as the children technically are being punished,” Assistant Public Defender Craig Dyer told the judge. “What has happened is … the son actually thought his mother had died. He was not, till later, informed she is alive.”

Before the young mother can send her children cards, the judge ruled that they must first be reviewed by the children’s therapists.

The 33-year-old Cross mother who was also pregnant during the time of the incident is charged with three counts of attempted second-degree murder and three counts of child abuse.

According to Volusia County deputies, in early March, Wilkerson locked the doors of her 2012 Honda Odyssey, put up the windows and told her three frightened children to close their eyes and go to sleep.

She reportedly then ignored the children’s pleas for help, Volusia County Sheriff’s investigators learned, insisting that she was taking herself and her three children to “a safer place.”

She was allegedly in town visiting family and claimed to have heard “demon voices” when the incident occurred.

In May, a psychiatrist stated that Wilkerson is no longer hallucinating and hearing voices.

She is currently out of jail and awaiting trial on $90,000 bail.
