Berkeley Co. Deputies Warn Of Phone Scam, Caller Claiming To Be Law Enforcement

money scamBERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–Authorities say a man is calling people on the phone and claiming to work in law enforcement.

According to the Berkeley Co. Sheriff’s Office, an unidentified man recently contacted a Berkeley County homeowner and identified himself as a “Brian Davis,” a member of the warrant division with the Berkeley Co. Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies say that the man told the homeowner that there was an existing warrant for their arrest for failure to appear for jury duty.

Davis told the homeowner that “the matter” could be resolved by agreeing to meet with him and pay a $875 fine in cash.

“The Warrants Division does not handle collecting fines for any criminal charges,” deputies stated.
