South Carolina Police Benevolent Association Endorses Brian Adams For Berkeley Co. Sheriff

brian adams pbaBERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–One of the largest law enforcement organizations in the country has endorsed North Charleston police officer Brian Adams for Berkeley County sheriff.

The South Carolina Police Benevolent Association made the official announcement on Wednesday. The national organization is made up of more than 38,000 law enforcement officers working at the federal, state and county level.

“We will ask our members, their friends and families, and all citizens who respect the strong and efficient enforcement of our laws to cast their ballots in the upcoming election in your favor,” David Soderberg, President of the Lowcountry Chapter, stated in a letter addressed to Adams.

During the recent Republican primary, Adams received 23.75% of the votes—the most out of all the candidates running. Duane Lewis, the deputy chief of law enforcement at Santee Cooper, came in second place with 13.05% of the votes.

Both men will face one another in a runoff on May 5th.

After the announcement by the organization, Adams issued the following statement:

“I am humbled, honored and proud to receive the endorsement of the SC Police Benevolent Association,” stated Adams. “An endorsement from PBA sends a powerful message that law enforcement officers support the platform of accountability and integrity as that is the only way to restore the public’s faith and trust in the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office.”

The candidate who wins the runoff in May will then head to the general election on June 9th, facing Democratic candidate Anthony Smalls.

Earlier this week, nine of the former candidates who recently ran in the Republican primary for sheriff announced their endorsement of Lewis.
