The National Wrestling Hall of Fame & Museum announced that Cane Bay High School senior, Matt Rudy, received the 2015 Dave Schultz High School Excellence Award.

The High School Excellence Award is based on excellence in wrestling, scholastic achievement, citizenship and community service. State winners for both the Schultz and Saunders Awards have been selected in each of the states that sponsor high school state championships.

“Matt always has been the most dedicated athlete in terms of reaching his goals. He is a leader in the classroom, on the football field, on the mat and in the community. Matt’s work ethic is extraordinary within our athletic program for all to witness. He has been a “model” of how to work hard to be the best you can be. As a Coach and a mentor, I can confidently say that Matt will be successful at whatever he decides to do in the future,” said Cane Bay High School Coach Timothy Wash.

This year marks the twentieth anniversary of the Schultz High School Excellence Award. One high school senior recipient is named for each state and five students are chosen as regional recipients. The national winner will be presented at Honors Weekend in Stillwater, Oklahoma on June 5 through the 6.

“We are very excited to announce these high school senior winners of the Dave Schultz and Tricia Saunders High School Excellence Awards for 2015. These student-athletes are role models who influence young people in a very meaningful way. We are not surprised to find that these winners represent diverse socio-economic backgrounds; reinforcing why the sport of wrestling is by nature and design a sport for all,” said Executive Director of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame, Lee Roy Smith.
