BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.—A lowcountry driver led multiple law enforcement agencies on a high speed chase that ended in Berkeley County Friday evening, police stated.

According to Lt. Michael Fowler with Hanahan Police, prior to the chase, 23-year-old Daverick Jamel Young was involved in a road rage incident in the Park Circle area of North Charleston,  reportedly pulling a gun on a person in another vehicle.

Fowler stated that officers with the North Charleston Police Department tried to stop Young and pursued him to Yeamans Hall Road before Hanahan police officers took the lead in the chase.

Authorities stated that Young continued to flee the scene. After leaving Hanahan’s jurisdiction, the police there called off the chase.

It was Berkeley County deputies who eventually caught up with Young who surrendered near the Bi-Lo grocery store on College Park Road near Highway 78.

Young is facing a slew of charges from the three law enforcement agencies. They are as follows:

  • Berkeley County Charges (Cite and Release) – Failure to Stop for Blue Light
  • Hanahan Police Dept. Charges – Failure to Stop for Blue Light, Reckless Driving, DUS 2nd Offense
  • North Charleston PD Charges – Failure to Stop for Blue Light, Reckless Driving, DUS 2nd Offense, Pointing and Presenting a Firearm

Fowler stated that Young also had an outstanding arrest warrant with Summerville Police Department for forgery and with the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office for Crimes Against a Federally Chartered or Insured Financial Institution.

Young was transported to the Hill Finklea Detention Center where he is currently awaiting a bond hearing.
