MONCKS CORNER, SC – According to Berkeley Co. officials, Lieutenant Will Rogers’ health continues to improve.

In fact, Rogers has been discharged from the Medical University of South Carolina and sent to a specialty rehabilitation facility.

At the request of the family, county officials are not releasing the name, city or state of the facility.

“The family of Lt. Rogers also wants to share with the public that they know the health improvements are coming from all of the public’s prayers,” Michael Mule, a county spokesperson, stated in a press release. “They ask for continued prayers not only for Lt. Rogers but also for all of the men and women who wear the uniform daily to protect and serve our communities.”

The veteran deputy was shot in the head on May 14th at the Exxon gas station located at the intersection of Highway 52 and Cypress Gardens Road.

Authorities located the shooter exactly one week later; however, he was not taken alive.

After a 10-hour standoff with 32-year-old Jerome Thomas Caldwell in the Cromwell Alley area of downtown Charleston, police shot and killed him after they say he opened fire on them.

Rogers’ recovery has been nothing short of a miracle.

A poker run to benefit Lt. Rogers is scheduled for June 27th at the Steel Horse Saloon located at 2033 Old Highway 52 in Moncks Corner.

Registration starts at 10:30 a.m. The fee is $15 for riders and $5 for passengers. A meal is also included at the end of the run.

The event will also include live entertainment, raffle prizes and an auction.

One-hundred percent of the proceeds will go toward helping Lt. Rogers pay for his medical care.
