Cypress Gardens Hosts Lunch & Learn Featuring Esteemed Clemson Horticulturist Zachary Boone Snipes

cypress gardensMONCKS CORNER, S.C.–Zachary Boone Snipes, Horticulture Extension Agent at Clemson University, will speak at Cypress Gardens’ popular Lunch and Learnseries later this month.

Snipes will be discussing how to start a garden from the ground up and cultivate it to thrive. Gardening begins before the season and below the ground.

Snipes will demonstrate how optimizing soil health, plant resistance, and planting dates can improve overall garden health without the use of chemicals.

Snipes primarily focuses on commercial vegetable and small fruit production in the Lowcountry.  His program involves providing technical assistance to growers with a strong emphasis on integrated pest management (IPM).  Additionally, Snipes has responsibilities pertaining to pesticide trainings and marketing for growers.  He received a BS degree in Biology with a minor in Chemistry from Presbyterian College and earned his MS degree in Plant and Environmental Sciences with a concentration in Plant Pathology from Clemson University.

“Not understanding how to effectively maintain a garden is one of the primary reasons some people avoid starting one of their own,” explains Heather Graham, Manager for Cypress Gardens.  “Zachary Snipes will give beginners the confidence they need, while offering seasoned gardeners valuable tips and tricks to make their gardens flourish.”

Participants are encouraged to bring their lunch or a dish to share.  Lunch begins at noon with presentations starting at 12:30pm. Seating is limited so advanced reservations are recommended.
