HANAHAN, S.C.—On Thursday, Hanahan officials launched their search for a new police chief.
A posting of the opening can be found on various online job sites including Indeed.com
The posting comes two days after Berkeley County Sheriff Duane Lewis announced that Hanahan Police Chief Mike Cochran will be the new chief deputy for the department.
According to the job description, city leaders are seeking a progressive and proven law enforcement professional who is committed to the community policing philosophy to lead the police department. Candidates should possess strong communication and leadership skills, with a record of visibility and participation in the community.
The Hanahan Police Department is supported by 32 sworn officers and 10 civilian employees. The department’s nearly $3,000,000 budget supports the six internal divisions of administration patrol, investigations, records/dispatch, victim’s assistance and animal control.
Cochran joins the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office after serving 4 years as the Police Chief in Hanahan and over 17 years serving with the Lauderhill Police Department in Florida, including 3 years as Assistant Chief of Police.
