BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–The funeral of a Goose Creek High track coach and speech therapist killed in the downtown Charleston church shooting will take place this Thursday.
Sharonda Coleman-Singleton was one of nine people shot to death inside the Emanuel AME Church on Calhoun Street on Wednesday night during bible study. The loving mother and pastor was just 45-years-old.
Jimmy Huskey, Principal of Goose Creek High School said, “Mrs. Singleton was a true professional at Goose Creek High School. She cared about her students and was an advocate for them, always willing to listen to and talk with them. She was always there with a smile and ready to help. Mrs. Singleton will be deeply missed by the ‘Gator Nation’ and we can never replace her as a member of our team.”
On Monday, her 19-year-old son, Chris Singleton, took to Twitter to announce that his mother’s funeral would take place at 12 p.m. at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church. The viewing will take place at 10 a.m.
It was originally scheduled to take place at Emanuel AME Church. The new location, however, is larger and includes extra seating.
This is the second announced funeral plan for the nine Charleston shooting victims.
Senator Clementa Pinckney who was also the church’s pastor will be laid to rest at 11 a.m. on Friday.
Coleman-Singleton leaves behind three children.
Her son Chris plays baseball at Charleston Southern University.
