Berkeley Co. Sheriff’s Office Loses Member Of The Family: K-9 Gotcha

GotchaBERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office said goodbye to one of their own recently.

Gotcha, a longtime K-9 with the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office, unexpected passed away on Monday.

“K-9 Gotcha was the partner and family member of Sergeant Scott Cook. K-9 Gotcha’s service to the citizens of Berkeley County cannot be overstated,” stated Sheriff Duane Lewis. “He will be sorely missed. Please keep Sgt. Cook and his family in your thoughts and prayers.”

K-9 Gotcha was certified in both patrol operations and narcotics detection, and assisted in numerous arrests.

After the announcement, hundreds of people flooded to social media to express their condolences.

“We are praying for your family and for the department. You will see your sweet friend again in heaven as he bounds out to greet you,” posted Neva Lynn McQuown Peagler.

“RIP Gotcha. Heaven is a safer place with you. God bless,” wrote Gerard DeCocker.

“From a k9 family who has walked this road. Our hearts and prayers are with you and your family Scott. So much more than man’s best friend; a trusted and respected partner. God speed beautiful brave one,” stated Cathy Trussell Waddell Cox.

Gotcha passed away on July 20, 2015.
