BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–John Chalus, Stratford High School athletic director and former Stratford High School head baseball coach, has been selected as one of this year’s inductees into the Charleston Baseball Hall of Fame.
“It is such a great honor to be inducted into the Charleston Baseball Hall of Fame. I am so very fortunate to have been associated with great coaches, players, parents and administration that supported me through the years,” said Chalus.
Chalus coached the Knights for 28 seasons, 23 as head coach. During his time as head coach, Chalus led the Knights to Class AAAA state championships in both 1996 and 2005. Chalus has an overall record of 463 wins and only 192 losses.
A testament to Chalus’ extraordinary coaching, 12 of his players were draft picks for various Major League Baseball teams including the Baltimore Orioles and the Toronto Blue Jays.
“This can truly be considered a Stratford, City of Goose Creek and Berkeley County School District honor,” said Chalus.
Chalus and other inductees will be honored at the Charleston RiverDogs game on Saturday, August 8, 2015, beginning at 6:05 p.m.
