BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.—Female law enforcement officers all over the country are standing behind a little girl who stands behinds the thin blue line.

Kinley Goertler, 4, was shopping with her mom recently in Washington when she found a SWAT police uniform and picked it out as her Halloween costume. The only problem was Kinley noticed that it was described as a “boy’s costume.”

“I got it for her anyways and told her that cops could be girls, too,” Goertler told ABC News. “I could tell she was still bothered and it bothered me as a mom, so I posted about it on Facebook as just a ‘mom rant’ for our family and friends.”

That Facebook rant quickly caught the attention of female police officers all over the country which, in turn, spawned the “Girl Cops Are Awesome” movement.

Recently, several female police officers with the Goose Creek Police Department rallied behind “Officer Kinley,” sending the little girl their well wishes.

“Welcome to the blue sisterhood, Kinley,” they wrote. “We are strong. We are fierce. We are proud. We are blue.”

The little girl says when she grows up, she hopes to one day be an officer, too.

“She has no doubts about it whatsoever right now,” her mom said.
