Berkeley County DNR Officer Named ‘Outstanding Officer’ For 2015

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–Sgt. Freddie Earhart with the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources was recently selected as one of the agency’s outstanding officers for 2015.

Earhart, who hails from Moncks Corner, works in Region 4 which represents Horry, Georgetown, Berkeley, Hampton, Charleston, Beaufort, Colleton, Dorchester and Jasper counties.

Along with this honor, Earhart was selected as a candidate for the statewide honor of’ ‘Officer of the Year.’ The title, however, was recently awarded to PFC Wes Stewart of Lancaster. Stewart represents York, Chester, Fairfield, Lancaster, Kershaw, Chesterfield, Lee, Darlington, Marlboro, Dillon, Florence, Marion and Williamsburg counties.

Earhart along with Stewart and four other officers were recently honored in Columbia for their dedication in protecting the state’s natural resources through enforcement, education, special investigations, intelligence and records and staff operations.

South Carolina’s Natural Resources Law Enforcement officers serve and protect the state’s natural resources by patrolling more than 31,000 square miles of the state’s lands and inland waters.

Officers also patrol 750 miles of tidal shoreline and marine waters, to the state’s territorial boundary three miles offshore and beyond on special federal assignments.

Throughout the state’s 46 counties, DNR officers enforce laws and regulations pertaining to more than 450,000 registered boats, and a half-million licensed hunters, anglers, and the multi-million dollar coastal fishing industry.

Officers enforce Wildlife Management Area regulations and statewide litter laws, instruct hunter and boating education, conduct statewide search and rescue operations and perform community service.
