Historic Flash Flooding, Rain to Continue Monday

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–According to the National Weather Service, historic and life-threatening flash flooding will continue into Monday across the Lowcountry.

Tropical moisture combined with low pressure and a stalled front along the coast will continue to produce periods of heavy rain.

The NWS reports that heavy rain will maintain and even exacerbate ongoing life-threatening flash flooding.

Forecasters say the rain will continue to fall heavily at times and by Monday afternoon additional rainfall amounts of 3 to 6 inches with the highest amounts likely in part of Berkeley County.

Heavy flooding has created sinkholes in some areas of the county–including Gross Avenue in Summerville.

According to Berkeley Electric, as of 9 p.m., there are currently 575 power outages–all of them in the Jamestown area.

Along with all government buildings and publics schools, the SCDMV will be closed Monday.
