MONCKS CORNER, SC – Berkeley County Supervisor Bill Peagler announced that a Red Cross shelter will be opened tomorrow afternoon for residents in the Jamestown area and those living along the creeks off of the Santee River, as the Santee River near Jamestown is expected to hit Major Flood Stage (above 22 feet) at 2:00 AM on Saturday morning.

“Based on forecasts from the National Weather Service, we expect the flood levels to be slightly above those from the 2003 flood,” said Peagler. “From these forecasts, we also expect there to be localized flooding in the Jamestown area. We strongly advise Jamestown residents who suffered flood damage or were stuck in their homes due to road closures in 2003 and those living along the creeks off of the Santee River to leave their homes tomorrow. With our focus on your life and safety, Berkeley County is opening a Red Cross shelter for you to evacuate to.”

The shelter will open at 5:00 PM tomorrowFriday, October 9, 2015 – at Timberland High School. The address of Timberland High School is 1418 Gravel Hill Rd, St. Stephen, SC 29479. Residents are not allowed to bring pets to the shelter.

If Berkeley County residents in the areas expected to be affected have questions, they are asked to call 843-719-4800. If residents in other parts of Berkeley County have questions about the area they live or road closures, they are asked to call the South Carolina Emergency Management Division at 1-866-246-0133.
