BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–The Berkeley County School Board voted unanimously Tuesday night, October 27, to approve the land acquisition contract for Tanner/Foster Creek Elementary School proposed by Hanahan City Council.
The school is one of the projects funded by the 2012 referendum-approved bond. Tanner/Foster Creek Elementary School will hold up to 780 students and alleviate the growth concerns at Hanahan Elementary, Goose Creek Primary and Sedgefield Intermediate.
The new school will be constructed on Williams Lane in the City of Hanahan.
“We are eager to begin entering into the construction planning phase for Tanner/Foster Creek Elementary”, said Interim District Superintendent, Dr. Mike Turner. “Berkeley County School Board and Hanahan City Council have worked very hard to reach an agreement that adheres to the referendum-approved bond and provides a school for the children of Hanahan. I appreciate everyone’s time and willingness to do what is best for BCSD students.”
According to school district officials, the purchase of the land and future construction of the new school “illustrates the great feats that can be realized when leaders in Berkeley County collaborate.”
The construction of Tanner/Foster Creek Elementary School will prove to be mutually beneficial for students and residents by alleviating overcrowding in schools and supporting continued growth in Hanahan and Goose Creek.
