ST. STEPHEN, S.C.–American Red Cross disaster-trained volunteers were on the scene following a Saturday afternoon fire, which left the home of one adult, located on Jamie Circle, St. Stephen, unlivable, volunteers stated.

The St. Stephen and the Alvin Fire Departments responded to the blaze.

The Red Cross provided funds for temporary lodging, food, and clothing, as well as a comfort kit, containing personal hygiene items, and referrals to partner agencies to assist with the victim’s long term recovery.

In South Carolina, the American Red Cross, on average, responds to a disaster every four hours.  In addition to responding to home fires, many Red Cross volunteers continue to assist in several communities in the flood-affected areas of South Carolina.  Last year, the Palmetto South Carolina Region assisted more than 7,000 individuals affected by disaster.
