MONCKS CORNER, S.C.–The unofficial votes are in for Tuesday’s election in Moncks Corner. Both David Dennis and Chad Sweatman were both re-elected to town council.
“Great campaigns and great energy throughout,” Sweatman posted on social media after the final results came down. “Our town would have won with any combination of the candidates. Thank you all for your continued support throughout this chaotic election year. I could not have done it without each and everyone of you!”
“Thank you for all who came out today!” Dennis stated via his official campaign page on Facebook.
Political newcomer Jay Law will also join them on town council.
Turnout for the election, however, was rather low. Berkeley Co. Elections and Voter Registration Director Adam Hammons stated that there are presently 5,399 registered voters in Moncks Corner.
Of that number, only 12 percent or 658 people voted in Tuesday’s election.
Hammons says the votes will be certified and made official on Thursday at 10 a.m.
