Berkeley Co. Sheriff’s Office: Woman Randomly Firing Gun, Points Weapon at Deputies

crime scene tapeBERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–According to Berkeley County Spokesperson Michael Mule, a woman was taken to the hospital after pointing a gun at sheriff’s deputies.

Mule says at 7:22 p.m., Berkeley County dispatch received multiple 911 calls about an active shooter on Whisper Way in Saint James Estates in unincorporated Goose Creek.

Three minutes later, Mule says deputies arrived and located a white female randomly discharging a firearm.

After deputies made contact with the female and deployed less-lethal force, Mule says the female pointed her firearm at the deputies.

That’s when Mule says a sheriff’s deputy then discharged a firearm at the female in order to remove the threat.

Sheriff Duane Lewis contacted SLED to conduct an independent investigation. SLED is on the scene now.

Berkeley Coroner Bill Salisbury has confirmed that the female was pronounced dead at 8:47 PM at Trident Hospital.

The woman was identified Friday afternoon by Salisbury as 36-year-old Laura Lemieux, of Goose Creek. She was at a friend’s home at the time of the shooting, he said.
