GOOSE CREEK, S.C.—Berkeley County deputies confirm there are investigating a possible case of embezzlement.
Authorities say Goose Creek High School’s principal contacted deputies after the new athletic Booster Club treasurer noticed money missing while going through a box of receipts.
According to the incident report, while trying to match the paperwork with the organization’s bank account, she noticed that during the months between August 14 and October 9th, there was a discrepancy of approximately $84,100.
School reps say the account is supposed to have around $99,000 in it, however, it was found to have only $5,900 in it.
Deputies say they contacted the former treasurer to see if she knew where the other paperwork might be. She advised officers that it might be listed on a thumb drive that she used as a ledger, the report stated. Attempts to get more information involving the case were not successful.
According to Chief Deputy Mike Cochran, investigators are currently conducting forensic accounting to gather more information.
