MONCKS CORNER, S.C.–South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson announced that the office’s Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) division secured a guilty plea and conviction this week in Berkeley County General Sessions Court.

David Scott Pearson of Moncks Corner pleaded guilty on December 2, 2015 to two counts of Sexual Exploitation of a Minor, Second Degree, and ten counts of Sexual Exploitation of a Minor, Third Degree, before Judge Steven John.

Pearson distributed files containing child pornography to Detective Lieutenant Kevin Murphy with the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office.  Computer equipment was found at Pearson’s home with both the original files and additional files which also contained child pornography, along with evidence that Pearson had purposefully searched for and viewed these types of files.

Pearson pleaded guilty after a day of trial testimony.  He was sentenced to eight years imprisonment, suspended to the service of 40 months, to be followed by five years of probation on all counts to run concurrently.  Upon his release, Pearson must register as a sex offender.

Pearson also consented to the forfeiture of his seized computer equipment.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant Deputy Attorney General Kyle Senn.
