Game of Pool Ends with Bar Fight, Shooting in Cross; One Person in Jail

CROSS, S.C.–The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office recently arrested William Kenneth Melton, age 48, of Cross for Aggravated Assault after a bar fight at the Sportsman Bar and Grill on Old Highway 6 in Cross.

According to the sheriff’s office, deputies responded to a report of a fight/shooting. The investigation revealed that Melton had been playing pool with the victim when a verbal altercation began.

Investigators say the argument became physical and that led to Melton shooting the victim in the head with a revolver.

The victim, a 30-year-old white man, was injured but is expected to make a full recovery, deputies say.

Responding deputies located Melton in his truck a few miles from the incident location.

Melton, has been charged with: 1. Attempted Murder 2. Possession of a weapon during a violent crime 3. Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

He is currently being held at the Hill-Finklea Detention Center.
