Berkeley County School District Announces Spelling Bee Champions

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–Berkeley County School District hosted its annual district-wide spelling bee last week at Berkeley High School.

Ralph Quindo, a 7^th grade student from Hanahan Middle School, claimed the top prize. Forty-seven students in grades six through eight competed to be the top speller.

Daniel Island School 8^th grade student, Emily Williams, was the first runner-up, and Hanahan Middle 8^th grader, Logan Dunn, placed third. Quindo, Williams, Dunn and 10 other top finishers will advance to Spellbound, the Lowcountry’s regional spelling bee, which is sponsored by The Post and Courier.

The following students will represent the school district at Spellbound! Ralph Quindo, Hanahan Middle; Emily Williams, Daniel Island School; Logan Dunn, Hanahan Middle; Autumn Maxwell, Hanahan Middle; Maya Ovink, Westview Middle; Tristan Scrio, Cane Bay Middle; Tony Tinsley, Cane Bay Middle; Jasmine Benekin, Macedonia Middle; Tayler Brown, Cane Bay Middle; Reese Gatlin, Cross High; Olivia Diaz, College Park Middle and Alyssa Naudin, Marrington Middle School of the Arts.

The following students represented their schools at the district spelling bee: Berkeley Middle: Stephen Jones, Jaxson Calson, and Liam Davis; Cross Elementary: Landon Pinckney, and Anna Nawrocki; Cainhoy Elementary/Middle: Javier Collins-Smith, Zaria Allen and Shimya Mack; College Park Middle: Corry Butts, Evelyn Sanchez and Olivia Diaz; Cane Bay Middle: Tayler Brown, Tony Tinsley and Tristan Scrio; Cross High: Reese Gatlin, and Le’Shay Jailor; Daniel Island School: Emily Williams, Natalie Rice and Autumn Fort; Hanahan Middle: Logan Dunn, Ralph Quindo and Autumn Maxwell; Macedonia Middle: Jasmine Benekin, Haley Thompson and Kieran Sumpter; Marrington Middle School of the Arts: Alyssa Naudin, Dakota Gouin and Reece Brant; Sangaree Middle: Isabella Paras, Zaniyah Ward and Aisha Faruq; Sedgefield Middle: De’Mia Perry, Pere’Ajaha Bellinger and Sahmaya Busby; St. Stephen Middle: Joceana Bailey, Jacob Wiley and Moana Timmons; Westview Middle: Tori Brown, Abigail LaPoint and Maya Ovink.
