GOOSE CREEK, S.C.–According to Trooper Bob Beres with the South Carolina Highway Patrol, they’ve arrested a man they believe is responsible for a wreck that killed an 86-year-old man last month.

Earl R. Carter has been charged with reckless homicide for the deadly February 13th accident on Red Bank Road.

The Berkeley County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as 86-year-old Perfecto Desonia of Goose Creek.

Desonia was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the collision.

While his death was ruled accidental, the victim’s family maintains Desonia would be alive today if the other driver had not been “street racing.”

“If the cops don’t go and find this other car that was part of that then there’s no justice for this family,” said Sharon Desonia, the victim’s daughter-in-law, told Channel 2 prior to the arrest.

Desonia was exiting the driveway of a hardware store on Red Bank Road in Goose Creek when a sedan struck his van. Several bystanders claim the vehicle that struck Desonia’s van was racing another car before the impact.
