The murder charges against Tammy and Sidney Moorer in the disappearance of Heather Elvis have been dropped, according to the Horry County Public Index.

Sidney is originally from Berkeley County having attended Lord Berkeley Academy, now St. Johns Christian Academy, in Moncks Corner.

The Horry County Index states that several charges previously filed against Tammy were dismissed as of Thursday afternoon. The specific charges that have been dismissed are murder, two counts of indecent exposure, and obstruction of justice.

The husband and wife were charged in the death of Heather Elvis, a 20-year-old Socastee woman who was first reported missing in December of 2013.

Nearly three years later, the young woman’s body has never been found.

“Our focus is still on getting information about where Heather is, and looking for tips and anyone who knows

anything at all,” Heather’s mom Debbi Elvis told Myrtle Beach Online Thursday, declining to talk about the dismissal of the charges because of the gag order. “I want people to still know this is about Heather and that we still haven’t found her yet and not to lose focus on what the real issue is here.”

According to Horry County investigators, the missing 20-year-old was last seen during the early mornings of Dec. 18, 2013, when she returned home from a date. She reportedly called a female friend about an hour later to tell her how the date went and that was the last time anyone spoke with the young woman.

In a police report, Brianna Warrelmann, Heather Elvis’ roommate, told police Elvis seemed like she was “crying and upset” after Elvis received a call from Sidney during the early morning of Dec. 18th.

On December 19th, police found Elvis’ dark green 2001 Dodge Intrepid parked at Peachtree boat landing in the Socastee area but no signs of the missing woman.

Horry County Police Chief Saundra Rhodes has stated previously that police found evidence inside the Moorers’ home and on their property during a recent search that gave them probable cause for the murder charge.

Investigators revealed that Elvis had had a previous relationship with Sidney Moorer.
