Berkeley County Councilman Josh Whitley Honored As Leader in the Law

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–Smyth Whitley, LLC, announced that Charleston, South Carolina, attorney and Berkeley County Councilman Josh Whitley was selected as one of the honorees for the 2016 Leadership in the Law Awards by South Carolina Lawyers Weekly.

Honorees were nominated by peers and colleagues and selected by the publisher and staff of South Carolina Lawyers WeeklyWhitley is one of only 30 attorneys statewide to receive the Leadership in Law recognition this year.  Whitley received this honor as a result of his outstanding accomplishments and leadership in the legal profession and in public service.

Whitley represents District 2 on the Berkeley County Council, representing Daniel Island, Clements Ferry Road, and parts of the cities of Hanahan and Goose Creek.  He is a five year member of the Board of Trustees at the Charleston Stage / Dock Street Theater and served two terms as its President.

He is a former member of the Berkeley County Board of Zoning Appeals and past Chairman of the Berkeley County Republican Party.  He also previously served on the Executive Committee of the South Carolina Republican Party and continues on the local executive committee.

Whitley’s legal practice includes the litigation of medical malpractice suits, environmental torts, and complex litigation – including constitutional law litigation.

Established in 2001, South Carolina Lawyers Weekly is a regional publication that provides legal news, opinions, and court decisions to its readers.  The publication offers coverage of developments in case law, changes to court rules, and verdict and settlement reports to South Carolina attorneys.
