GOOSE CREEK, S.C.–The automotive buyer intelligence firm Autolist today released a study that shows that buyers can save money by purchasing a used BMW closer to the company’s assembly factory in Greer, South Carolina.

The study, which involved over 56 million vehicles and 3 billion unique data points across vehicles of all makes and models nationwide, showed that the average used BMW is $398 cheaper than the national average in South Carolina.

According to the analysis, the BMW that was the cheapest compared to the national average in South Carolina was the M3, with prices $657 below the national average. The most popular BMW, the 3 series, was found to be $160 less than the national average.

Autolist’s study found that there were statistically significant differences in list prices at the state, county and even the city level throughout the United States. Results showed that while dealer density predictably contributed significantly to price differentials, other factors did so as well, such as manufacturer community presence and geography demands. In the case of South Carolina, both dealer density and manufacturer presence — in this case, that of BMW — played a role in determining the prices.

Within South Carolina, Goose Creek was found to be the #12 most affordable place to buy a BMW 3 Series in South Carolina, as BMW 3 Seriess were found to be $1,398 more than the state average. Across vehicles of all makes and models, Goose Creek’s average vehicle was found to be $505 more than the state average.

As a result, people in South Carolina have an opportunity to save money on used BMWs by purchasing them at places nearer to the BMW factory.
