More than 50 People Arrested During 2-Day Crime Sweep in Berkeley County

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–Thursday and Friday were busy very nights for the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office.

They arrested 51 people during a two-day arrest sweep which included traffic stops in areas prone to crime as well as tracking down people with outstanding warrants.

Since taking office last year, Sheriff Duane Lewis has conducted multiple sweeps throughout the county prone to high crime. Each sweep usually has netted anywhere between 25-100 arrests.

“Working together with our local, state and federal law enforcement partners, we are making an impact in the communities throughout Berkeley County,” said Sheriff Duane Lewis. “Together, we are making a difference.”

During the recent sweep, the arrests ranged from various drug charges for heroin, marijuana, meth; attempted murder; third degree burglary; failure to stop for blue lights, etc.

Other agencies involved in the sweep included: Moncks Corner, Goose Creek, Hanahan and Bonneau police departments, along with S.C. Probation

and Parole, Department of Natural Resources, Highway Patrol and the State Law Enforcement Division and U.S. Marshals Service.
