Troopers: Child Killed in Huger Crash after Truck Runs Stop Sign

crashHUGER, S.C. — Authorities confirm that a child has died in a car crash at the intersection of Highway 41 and Charity Church Road.

Several others were injured and rushed to a nearby hospital.

The crash happened Sunday a little after 7:30 p.m. in Huger.

Sgt Bob Beres with the South Carolina Highway Patrol two children and a driver were traveling in a 1998 Honda Accord heading south on Highway 41 when it was struck by a 2013 Chevrolet that ran a stop sign on Charity Church Road.

The impact of the collision caused both vehicles to overturn, troopers stated.

One of the children, who’s identity hasn’t been released, died in the crash while the driver and the other child were taken to MUSC.

Beres stated that both children were wearing seat belts as well as the driver 22-year-old driver and two passengers in the Chevrolet.

They were also transported to MUSC.

No word yet if charges will/have been filed against the driver of that vehicle.

BERKELEY COUNTY CORONER UPDATE:

5 year old, Jordan Burch of Huger was a back seat passenger in a Honda that was struck by a pick-up truck.  The child was restrained and pronounced dead on the scene by Coroner Salisbury.  The accident is under investigation by the Berkeley County Coroner’s Office and the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
