SLED Investigating Chase, Officer-Involved Shooting

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–According to Berkeley County Spokesperson Michael Mule,ย Sheriff Duane Lewis will addressย a deputy-involved shooting and chase Thursday at 3:30 p.m. outside the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office.

“The sheriffs from the other jurisdictions involved in todayโ€™s incident will not be in attendance but are expected to address their departmentsโ€™ involvement later today from their respective counties,” stated Mule.

Chief Deputy Michael Cochran confirmed that prior to the shooting, there was a chase that originatedย in Berkeley County and continued allย the way into Orangeburg County on I-95 near the Santee exit.

According to troopers, the chase resulted inย some delays on I-95 SB with a detour at Exit 98.

Authorities claim the suspect kidnapped his girlfriend and had reportedly violated a restraining order against the woman.

Ninth Circuit Solicitor Scarlett Wilson stated that the suspect was scheduled to be in court Thursday morning for a bond revocation hearing.

The suspect has not yet been identified but was transported to a nearby hospital. Authorities confirm that all law enforcement as well as the girlfriend are doing okay.
