BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–When most six-year-old children celebrate their big day, it’s not uncommon for them to ask and expect toys, games and, of course, cake–but not Merritt Payne.

When Merritt and her family discussed her wishes for her upcoming 7th birthday, she had just one: to celebrate her birthday for a cause and in lieu of gifts she would collect donations.

As diligent and mindful parents, Anne-Magill and Brad Payne knew they had to grant their daughters wish. The Payne family reached out to H.O.P.E. Acres Rescue to help fulfill Merritt’s birthday wish.

“Her friends and their families were incredibly generous, and we ended up with a pile of much needed supplies,” stated the little girl’s mother.

H.O.P.E. Acres Rescue recently welcomed Merritt, her family and friends to spend the afternoon at the farm.  Each family member and friend in attendance brought a donation for the rescue in Merritt’s honor.

“It was a delight to have everyone visit the rescue and share our mission with them,” stated Tracey Sawyer, the founder of H.O.P.E Acres Rescue. “On behalf of the entire volunteer staff at H.O.P.E., we commend Merritt for her selflessness, generosity and giving heart.  What a wonderful example she is at such a young age to extend a kind hand to those in need.”

H.O.P.E. Acres Rescue rehabilitates, rescues and provides a safe haven for equines in need, to live out a healthy, happy, and peaceful life through public education, county and state alliances, adoptions, donations and caring volunteers.
