9-1-1 call
“He’s sitting right here waiting, okay?” stated Donald Little’s grandmother to 9-1-1 dispatchers Monday night.

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.—On Tuesday, the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office released the 9-1-1 call made by Donald Little Jr.

Little was one of three inmates who managed to escape from the Dorchester County Detention Center on June 24th.

Brothers Michael Bryan Chaplin and Matthew Daniel Chaplin were both captured Sunday night after authorities learned they were hiding inside a residence on Foxborough Drive in Goose Creek.

One day later, Little called 9-1-1 to turn himself into authorities. Below is a transcript of his conversation with dispatchers:

DISPATCHER: Berkeley County 9-1-1?

LITTLE: Yes, ma’am, um, this is Donald Little.

DISPATCHER: I’m sorry?

LITTLE: This is Donald Little. I’m trying to call and turn myself in. I was one of the ones that got out of Dorchester County.

DISPATCHER: Okay, where are you, dear?

LITTLE: I’m at 770 College Park Road.

DISPATCHER: Are you okay?

LITTLE: I think my foot is broke.

DISPATCHER: Anybody there with you?

LITTLE: Yeah, my grandparents.

DISPATCHER: Donald, hold on one minute for me, okay? Don’t hang up, okay?

LITTLE: I’m not.

DISPATCHER: You said your grandparents are there with you?

LITTLE’S GRANDMOTHER: He’s at my house. This is Virginia Little. He just showed up in the backyard.

DISPATCHER: He what now?

LITTLE’S GRANDMOTHER: He just come up into my backyard.

DISPATCHER: Okay.

LITTLE’S GRANDMOTHER: He’s sitting right here waiting, okay?

“He was taken into custody without incident and turned over to deputies from Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office,” stated Berkeley County Chief Deputy Mike Cochran.

Brothers Michael Bryan Chaplin and Matthew Daniel Chaplin were both captured Sunday night after authorities learned they were hiding inside a residence on Foxborough Drive in Goose Creek.

On June 24th, the three detainees broke a metal table support bar from a writing table and used the bar to pry out a jail window.  The window is twenty four inches long and nine inches wide, according to authorities.

Dorchester County Sheriff Chief Sam Richardson stated that the three inmates escaped wearing only their tee-shirts and underwear.  They used bed linens to lower themselves to the ground floor.

On Monday, the Chaplin brothers refused to attend a bond hearing on the new charges they now face for breaking out of jail.

Authorities say the brothers and Little will also face additional charges in Berkeley County.
