BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–The Berkeley County Emergency Operations Center is now partially staffed, as Berkeley County is now at OPCON 4 in anticipation of Tropical Storm Hermine.

This means a storm poses a possible threat to South Carolina approximately 72 hours before making landfall.

Starting Friday at 8AM, Berkeley County will have Citizen Advisory Hotlines available for residents to seek updated information from the Berkeley County Emergency Preparedness Department.

To reach these hotlines, please call either 843-719-4800, 843-719-4166 or 843-719-4047. In the case of an emergency, please call 911; do not call the hotline numbers.

The Berkeley County Landfill will operate only until 2PM Friday. All other county government buildings, including the Courthouse, will be closed the entire day tomorrow.

Only essential county government personnel, as described by emergency preparedness protocol, and those needed to staff the Emergency Operations Center are asked to come to work tomorrow.

For the safety of Berkeley County residents, the County has already increased staffing levels of emergency personnel, and the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office has assigned additional deputies during the storm.
