BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–Berkeley County deputies are investigating a shooting that sent one person to the hospital Saturday afternoon.

Around 3:07 p.m., deputies say they responded to a panic alarm at the Rainbow Mart store located at 1055 Old Back River Road in unincorporated Goose Creek.

The call reported that shots were heard in the immediate area around the store. At 3:25 p.m. deputies say a call reporting a ‘drive-by shooting’ came in near Rosedale Avenue and Princeton Avenue, just a few blocks from the Rainbow Mart.

During the investigation, deputies say they learned that two black men were in a white Toyota Camry and exited the vehicle and walked away from the vehicle towards the corner of Rosedale Avenue and Princeton Drive.

At some point, deputies say unknown individuals in a dark vehicle, possibly a dark in color, Chrysler 200 sedan began firing a gun out of the vehicle as it sped away.

One of the subjects from the white Camry was shot in the gunfire exchange, stated Chief Deputy Mike Cochran. The other person from the white Camry took the second subject to Trident Hospital where the second subject is undergoing surgery at this time.

The identity of the shooting victim and the second subject is not known at this time, authorities say.

The Chrysler 200 or similar vehicle is missing a side mirror.

Detectives are asking anyone who may has information about this shooting to please contact the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office at 843-719-4412 or CrimeStoppers of the Lowcountry at 843-554-1111.
