Deputies: Shots Fired By Suspects During Chase, Two People Arrested Following Crash

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–Two people were arrested following a high speed chase on the northern end of the county Wednesday, according to the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office. The chase ended after the suspects, a man and woman, crashed their getaway car into the woods off of Hard Pinch Road.

Approximately 7:35 p.m., a Berkeley County Sheriff’s Deputy was on patrol on Highway 402 and Dr. Evans Road in the Moncks Corner area of the county when the deputy attempted to stop a gold Buick LeSabre being operated by a driver not wearing a seat belt.

Deputies say the driver refused to stop for the deputy’s blue lights and siren. Instead, authorities say the driver sped up and fled the scene.

While attempting to stop the Buick, the passenger of the vehicle, later identified as Francisco Andie Thomas, 42, discharged a firearm and threw it along with some plastic bags out of the window.

As the vehicle approached Hard Pinch Road, deputies say the driver left the road and struck some smaller trees before coming to a stop. When the vehicle was immobilized, the driver and passenger exited the vehicle. They were taken into custody shortly thereafter.

The driver of the vehicle was identified as Cindy Wright Brazill, 47, of Moncks Corner was arrested and charged with Driving Under Suspension, 3rd Offense in the past 5 years. Brazil also had a warrant out of Bamburg for DUS.

Deputies searched the side of the road that where Thomas had been throwing the bags and pistol out and recovered a loaded 40 caliber Springfield Armory pistol. The pistol had been stolen out of St. Stephen.

Authorities say Thomas was also found in to be in possession of a green leafy plant material that presumptively tested positive to be marijuana. Thomas is a convicted felon and prohibited from possessing a firearm.

Thomas was charged with Discharging a firearm at a vehicle, unlawful possession of firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a stolen firearm and simple possession of marijuana.
