BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office is asking the public for help in locating a man wanted for questioning following a recent fire at Macedonia Church of God Prophecy.

The church is located on Church of God Road in the Macedonia community. On Friday night, flames tore through the building, causing the roof to partially collapse.

For the small congregation, this is not the first time they say they’ve suffered a loss.

“Our church has been vandalized and robbed various times in recent years, but we feel strongly that this community needs the love of the Lord, so we are determined to stay put,” stated church member, Christie Mason Hagerman.

Hagerman recently started a GoFundMe page to raise money to help the church rebuild and  hopes to help to raise $20,000 through the website.

“We would love to install a security system and more lighting, as we have learned that young people have been gathering behind our building at night,” she stated.

Macedonia Rural Fire Department Chief Brandon Munn told ABC News 4 that statements from bystanders and the fire’s point of origin led fire crews and law enforcement officials to the conclusion someone started the fire at the church.

Deputies say they are looking for Justin Wayne Litchfield, 26, of O’Henry Trail, in Moncks Corner.

Litchfield is said to frequent the Macedonia area and may be in a dark in color SUV, possibly a Mid 2000’s Mercury Mountaineer with Kentucky Tags or a Mid 2000’s Chevrolet Silverado.

If you know the whereabouts of Litchfield you are asked to contact the Berkeley County Sheriffs Office at (843) 719-4465.

According to Pastor Donna Worton, church services will be held at her house as the congregation  rebuilds.

Along with Sunday morning services, the small congregation operates a food pantry for individuals in need.
