CORDESVILLE, S.C.–A Berkeley County woman and her two, young children are trying to rebuild their lives following a mobile home fire on Jimsonweed Lane in Cordesville.

Although Bridget Grooms and her two young daughters luckily escaped the fire, they are now homeless.

“Bridget is a single mother, a wonderful mother, who works very hard to provide for her beautiful girls, ages 5 and 2,” stated Tabitha Wilson, a family friend. “She owned her mobile home, but didn’t have homeowners insurance.”

American Red Cross disaster-trained volunteers are assisting the family by providing financial assistance for food, clothing, lodging, and other essentials, and comfort kits containing personal hygiene items.

Cordesville Volunteer, Moncks Corner, and Santee Circle Fire Departments responded to the blaze.

A GoFundMe account has been created to help the family. The money will go toward helping Grooms and her children rebuild.

Home fires continue to be the largest disaster threat in the United States. Last year in South Carolina, the Red Cross helped more than 6,500 people after home fires.
