BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–Multiple agencies are actively searching for a security guard who disappeared from his shift Wednesday night.

According to the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office, the missing worker, who is a contracted by Santee Cooper, has been identified as 53-year-old Michael Curry.

During a press conference Thursday evening, Sheriff Duane Lewis stated that Curry missed a radio check-in while on duty at the Jefferies Hydroelectric Station in Moncks Corner.

Curry  reportedly spoke to a family member on the phone but then missed a 6:45 p.m. radio check–which they say is not like him to do. They say he’s been a dedicated security employee at Santee Cooper for more than 15 years.

Lewis said Curry is not believed to have been in a vehicle at the time he disappeared. Authorities say his security vehicle was found at the post.

The Berkeley County Rescue Squad began a search for Curry at 8 o’clock Thursday morning along with the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office.

Chief Bill Salisbury told Live 5 News that much of the search efforts Thursday have been focused on the possibility that Curry may have fallen into the lake.

“We not leaving any stone unturned,” Salisbury said.

Several pings on Curry’s cell phone that indicate he may still be in the area of the station, Lewis stated during a press conference.

Several dive teams spent the day searching Lake Moultrie in the area where they believe he may have been walking to determine whether he might have fallen into the water.

The sheriff stated that foul play has not been ruled out, however, at this time there is no evidence.

Curry is an employee of Columbia-based Security Management, Santee Cooper spokesperson Mollie Gore said.
