BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–An autopsy on a Berkeley County inmate found dead Tuesday inside the Hill Finklea Detention Center has been conducted, according to Berkeley County Coroner Bill Salisbury.
“The results are pending a toxicology test,” stated Salisbury. “We found no trauma to the body that would indicate foul play.”
The coroner added it will likely take several weeks before his office learns the results from the toxicology test.
“I will report the manner and cause of death when the results are received,” stated Salisbury.
The inmate was recently identified as 32-year-old James Perritte of Summerville.
Records show that he was arrested this week by Summerville police for the following:
- Drugs / Possession of narc. in Schedule I(b),(c), LSD & Schedule II – 1st offense
- 0179-Drugs / Possession of other controlled sub. in Sched. I to V – 1st offense
- 3198-Drugs / Distribution, etc. of methamphetamine, 1st (Excludes manufacturing meth; see CDR Code 3776)
He was booked into the Berkeley County jail on April 25th, 2017.
Prior to the recent arrest, Perritte was arrested by the Moncks Corner Police Department on drug charges in October 2016.
His criminal record, which largely consists of various drug charges, dates back to 2006.
SLED and the Berkeley County Coroner’s Office are continuing to investigate the incident.
