MONCKS CORNER, S.C. – The 19th annual Shuckin’ in the Park Oyster Roast is Saturday, March 10, at Old Santee Canal Park. Park gates open at 9 a.m. and oysters will be served from 1 to 6 p.m.

All tickets this year (advance or day of event) are $5. Children 12 and under are admitted free, and there is a jump castle for their enjoyment. Tickets can be purchased at the park’s gatehouse or inside the Interpretive Center during regular park house, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Visa and MasterCard will be accepted.

Buckets of oysters are $10. Food tickets will be available for purchase the day of the event. Even if oysters aren’t your cup of brine, there will be hamburgers, hot dogs and the famous “Shuckin’ fish stew” for sale. Live entertainment is by Customs 4 and Friends, whose blend of beach music, oldies and popular music has made them a local favorite.

The historic park features boardwalks and canoe rentals to explore Biggin Creek. At the Interpretive Center there is a special exhibit on loan from the State Museum spotlighting South Carolina during Colonial times.

For the 10th consecutive year, 100 percent of Shuckin’ in the Park’s electricity needs will be powered by renewable Green Power from Santee Cooper.

Small coolers are allowed, but visitors are asked to keep their pets and golf carts at home. This is a special event so admission with an annual park pass does not apply.
